CLO recycling center to close at end of the year
An Overland Park drop-off recycling center is closing its doors after Dec. 31.
The Community Living Opportunities site at 80th and Metcalf, behind O'Neill Honda, will close after Dec. 31. CLO receives revenue from the operation.
When the site reopened in May of this year, it was agreed that it would close after 2008 because of noise complaints from nearby residents, the land would no longer be available, and Deffenbaugh, the recycling hauler, had challenges with the confined space in dropping off and removing large metal collection containers.
Overland Park is working with several cities in northeast Johnson County on a new drop-off site. Those discussions continue.
Residents can take recyclable material to the drop-off site at 11921 Hardy, behind the fire station on 119th Street.
Beginning Jan. 1, all residential trash haulers operating in Overland Park must offer customers the option of curbside recycling. Recycling remains voluntary for customers.
City offices closed Thursday, Friday
City offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.
