Todd Tiahrt beats Jerry Moran in Olathe straw poll
Tiahrt, of Wichita, received 165 votes to 46 for U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran of Hays. Eight votes were cast for other candidates. Brownback received 197 votes in the governor’s race. Twelve ballots were cast for other candidates.
In the race to be the party’s nominee for 3rd Congressional District seat now held by Democrat Dennis Moore, Patricia Lightner led the field with field with 74 votes followed by Macie Houston with 33, Dan Gilyeat with 30 and radio personality Darla Jaye with 24.
Law professor Kris Kobach received 192 votes in the secretary of state poll while J.R. Claeys of Salina received 22.
