Iowa Gazette: Central Iowans charged in dog fighting investigation
KANSAS CITY, MO. - Four Iowa residents have been indicted, along with three others from Missouri and Nebraska, for dog fighting as part of a multi-state investigation.
Each of the defendants are charged with participating in a conspiracy from Jan. 15 to May 8, to travel across state lines to sponsor a dog in an animal fighting venture and to aid in illegal gambling and bookmaking, according to the indictment unsealed today in the U.S. Western District of Missouri.
Officers from multiple federal and state law enforcement agencies seized 53 dogs in early morning raids on several locations involved in dog fighting ventures. The indictment cites three dog fights allegedly held at a farm in Gilman City, Mo.
