For Immediate Release
October 26, 2009
SENATOR FRED THOMPSON, ACTOR AND FORMER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, ENDORSES KRIS KOBACH FOR KANSAS SECRETARY OF STATE.
On October 24-25, 2009, Senator Fred Thompson visited Kansas City. During his visit, he formally endorsed Kris Kobach for the office of Kansas Secretary of State.
During the 2008 presidential campaign, Kris Kobach served as policy advisor to Fred Thompson. Thompson praised Kobach, saying: “Kris Kobach served the country with great distinction at the Department of Justice during the Bush Administration. He served my campaign equally well in 2008. He will perform invaluable service to the people of Kansas as Secretary of State. Kansas can trust him to protect the integrity of elections.”
Thompson described Kobach as his most important advisor on the issue of immigration policy: “When Kris Kobach served as my policy advisor during the 2008 presidential campaign, I knew I could rely on him.” Thompson continued by saying, “He knows the law, and he’s a straight shooter. Kansas needs a man like Kris Kobach as Secretary of State.”
Thompson, who served in the U.S. Senate from 1994-2003, is also a well known actor: He is best remembered as Arthur Branch, a pull-no-punches district attorney on NBC’s hit series, Law & Order. Thompson now spends his time giving expert political analysis as the host of the highly rated Fred Thompson Show, which he co-hosts with his wife, Jeri.
During the evening of October 24, Thompson was the guest of honor and featured speaker at a fundraising banquet in Kansas City, Missouri, for the Vitae Foundation, a pro-life group. When speaking before the banquet audience Thompson once again praised Kobach, noting Kobach’s role as a trusted policy advisor to Thompson during the presidential campaign.
